The Village of Oak Lawn is ideally located in southwestern Cook County, fifteen miles from Chicago's loop. It is a stable, family-oriented, middle-class suburb where many residents were born and raised and have chosen to establish and raise their own families. The Village's choice location has several bases:
-
Located in one of the strongest and most dynamic metropolitan economies in the country.
-
Fifteen miles from downtown Chicago.
-
Close to major expressways and Interstate Highways and networked with major thoroughfares
-
Commuter and freight lines within the Village
-
Three miles to Midway Airport and 35 minutes to O'Hare Airport.
The Village developed from a modest farming community in 1842 to the thriving community of of approximately 57,000 residents that it is today. In April, 1967 a tornado struck Oak Lawn which killed 31 people and caused millions of dollars in damage. The spirit of the community was never more evident than it was in how the community reacted to the tragedy. Strangers went out of their way to help each other and together they repaired the damage and used it as an opportunity to modernize their environment. That same community spirit exists today.
